Be A Senator Club promotes a positive atmosphere at SHS by having a monthly character focus to teach students how to Be a Senator. For the month of September, our monthly focus is Respect. Senators show respect for our school by keeping it tidy and following building procedures to keep our building safe. This week make sure you clean up after yourself in the cafeteria and follow proper procedures at the metal detectors, stairways and other common areas of the building. Thank you for Being A Senator!
The Mayor’s Youth Council is seeking additional membership and involvement from our community’s high school students. The council meets every 2-3 weeks and is responsible for several projects throughout the year that range from volunteer clean up days to hosting and organizing events downtown. Those who have perfect attendance may purchase one ticket to Homecoming for a discounted $10 today at lunch in the Commons and following the pep assembly in the gym. Must be cash or check. All other tickets are $15 and will not be pre-sold, you pay as you enter Saturday evening.
Our annual tailgate will take place this evening before the game. Clubs and groups will be there selling bratwurst, sandwiches, drinks, spirit gear, treats, and more. The tailgate will take place off Converse in the new parking lot on the Northwest corner of the stadium, the side with the baseball field starting at 5 PM and running up to kickoff. Show up and support the clubs, sports, and other groups that make SHS great.
The PSAT/NMSQT signup is now available for 9th-11th graders. The PSAT/NMSQT is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for juniors. While 9th and 10th graders may sign up, scores will not be counted for the scholarship. The due date to sign up is October 1st. The cost of this test is $18.00. Cash or checks must be paid in the Guidance Office by October 1st. The date of the test is October 29th. Any questions? Email Mrs. Lauer.
Your friendly and talented newspaper staffers wanted to say "Welcome back, Senators!" and wrote all students and staff letters of encouragement, positivity and hype. SHS Scholastic Bowl will begin practice next week Wednesday at 6:30 in the Commons with a brief parent meeting to follow. If you are unable to attend or have questions stop by room 366 and talk with Mrs. Eaton.
There Will be a Boys basketball open gym this Saturday Sept. 13th in the Gym from 9am to 11AM
The boys golf team lost to Chatham and SHG last night. Carter Beck led the way with a 40. Luke Milliman added a 41. Charlie Merritt with a 43 and Jude O’Brien with a 45.
The girls volleyball team got back to their winning ways with a 25-19 26-24 win at Triad in a non conference game.
Angel Efe Nogo lead the team in blocks, Ainsley Lambert in digs, Lucy Ambrose kills & Mattie Tierney in aces. Team record is now 12-4. Next game is at home on Tuesday against Eisenhower.
The Freshman football team won their game last night against Lanphier by a final score of 32-14. Jacob Scheffler led the way with 2 touchdowns on the ground and 1 through the air. In addition, Tre Guise had a rushing touchdown and James Houlihan converted two 2-point conversion attempts. Shout out to the entire offensive and defensive lines for making it possible. Congrats to Coach Reed and the freshman team on a great start!
The soccer team defeated Pleasant Plains 6-1.
Parker Hinds, Mayango Jallah, Victor Rosas, Maximus Pagliara, Cesar Velasquez, and Diego Sanchez scored for the Senators.
We look forward to seeing our students and staff at our home football games! We look forward to seeing our students and staff at our home football games! But, we want to remind you of the code of conduct. The Code of Conduct and the guidelines of the student
handbook apply to all students while on District 186 property, adjacent property or engaged in
school-sponsored activities. Any misconduct before, during or after the game will be handled by
the administration at the student’s school and will result in consequences.
Please note that students who are suspended and/or expelled are not permitted to attend
school events, including games. If a suspended or expelled student purchases a ticket and is
admitted by mistake, they will be required to leave, and no refunds will be issued.
All spectators are expected to remain seated during games. Anyone found standing or roaming
for an extended period of time will be asked to sit in the stands, failure to comply will result in
being removed from the stadium.
Also failing to abide by the football stadium expectations may result in you being escorted from
the stadium. If you are escorted from the stadium you will not be allowed to return to future
games.
No unaccompanied minors will be allowed entry into games. All K-8th grade students should be
with an adult who is responsible for their actions and monitors their movement during the
games. They should be sitting watching the games and limit walking around unless using the
restroom or visiting the concession stand. Students can not attend without an adult - they will
not be allowed entry.
Football games will conclude around 9:15 p.m., announcements will be made for students to
call for their ride at the start of 4th quarter at every game. Please make sure your ride, if
needed, is at the stadium to pick you up at that time.
We want to cheer on our teams, have great District 186 spirit and have a good time. Thank you
for assisting the Administration and the Springfield Police Department in this manner.
