Well, final votes have been counted, scores tallied and we do have the results for the winners of the Solon Cup. In fourth place were our 9th graders, 10th graders came in third. And the winners of a free slushy or popcorn for everyone is the class was the SENYARS! Powederpuff, Hallway, Solon Olympics victories were too much for the juniors to overcome! So for the second year in a row the Class of 2026 gets rewarded with treats! Thank you to all who participated and made Homecoming week what it was!
We ended with over 400 students who qualified for the Homecoming reward of $5 off for perfect attendance. Keep tracking your attendance, if you have absences that need excused, get it done now. DO NOT WAIT until the end of the semester to try to correct. Stay on pace to get that final exemption by being here every day. Freshmen, good news yet again, we have found three retroactive 91%+ days for the 9th grade! But last week saw the 10th, 11th and 12th graders show up every day above our 91% rate. Special shoutout to the sophomores, who had the day with the most people here, 95% attendance one day! The sophomores also have taken over the lead for best attendance this year. As a school we have surpassed the 93% mark. Keep showing up. Your presence each day matters. Every day counts at SHS!
The PSAT/NMSQT signup is now available for 9th-11th graders. The PSAT/NMSQT is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for juniors. While 9th and 10th graders may sign up, scores will not be counted for the scholarship. The due date to sign up is October 1st. The cost of this test is $18.00. Cash or checks must be paid in the Guidance Office by October 1st. The date of the test is October 29th. Any questions? Email Mrs. Lauer.
Hey readers! SHS Book Club is back for another year! Our first meeting is this Thursday, September 18th in Ms. Negele’s room 312, from 3:30-4:30. We will be choosing our first book for this month. This is just a fun group that likes to talk about books and find new ones to read. If you have any questions, feel free to ask Esme Eck or Madelyn Field! Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there.
SHS Scholastic Bowl will begin practice Tomorrow at 6:30 in the Commons with a brief parent meeting to follow. If you are unable to attend or have questions stop by room 366 and talk with Mrs. Eaton.
The JV football team made it 3-0 this week against Lanphier and got to 3-0 on the season with a 38-6 win over the Lions. The Senators got the scoring going on their first drive when Jacob Scheffler found James Houlihan in the back of the end zone for the first score. Lanphier responded with their only TD of the game to get to 8-6 before SHS rattled off the next 4 scores. Tyree Sullivan and Richawn Crawford both rushed for a TD. Scheffler caught an Andrew Benning pass for a TD and Elijah Peanut Taylor got the final score on a pass from Scheffler. Defense locked in with three total turnovers. Keshawn Kerr had approximately 20 chances before hauling in an interception. Peanut also got himself an interception to have a solid day. To put the game away the Senators got a fumble recovery from Joe Oseland, but did he score? No, he is not Matt Murphy! Good job, young men!
